EXO – Case Study
Exo (pronounced “echo”) is a health information and devices company. Exo believes everyone around the world should have access to high-quality, affordable, and easy-to-use medical imaging. The Company is on a mission to modernize medical imaging through its high-performance ultrasound platform and artificial intelligence. Exo’s goal is to enable healthcare professionals to make critical, real-time decisions that ultimately improve patient outcomes.
Every year, thousands of babies pass away because of infant mortality. Most of these deaths occur in smaller towns and among urban poor because families have no access to ultrasound machines, healthcare facilities, and healthcare workers. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 75 percent of the world does not have access to medical imaging, and the WHO goes on to add that a portable ultrasound imager can change the world. The point-of-care ultrasound technology is touted as the future of medical device technology.
Making that future a reality is Exo. With the Company’s device and solution offerings, the patient can look at the congestion in the lungs on a real-time basis, when quarantined at home, and doctors can get those images in real-time to act, or the healthcare workers can carry this portable device to every district they operate in.
Rising Tide is an early and significant backer of the Company, having led the early stage funding rounds. Since the initial investment, Rising Tide has brought together a network of leading Family Offices with an affinity for direct investment or health, thus opening doors to untouched capital, direct market access on a global level, and giving major leverage in negotiations with key strategic partners and corporates. Rising Tide has also introduced the Company to leading US Food and Drug and Quality Management Systems consultants as well as to the leadership at the IS Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), who can help in accelerating regulatory timelines. Through the years, Rising Tide has provided constant support for human capital development, with recommendations leading to engagements with key individuals in multiple Company departments.
